Kuaishou shelves are rising—how livestream should fight next

Kuaishou pledged billion-level traffic support in 2026 while shelf and search outpace livestream GMV growth. Live is not dead—it shifts from the only checkout lane to trust and demand ignition inside a full-funnel loop.

On April 22, 2026, Kuaishou Commerce held its “Win 2026” merchant conference in Hangzhou, pledging billion-level traffic support for quality supply and three upgrades: full-field synergy, deeper merge of commerce and ad traffic, and systematic onboarding of better merchants and SKUs.

For sellers already on Kuaishou, the real question is not “more platform money”—it is: as shelf, search, and mall growth outpace classic live rooms, should you still bet heavy on live? If yes, how?

Shelves do not replace live—they catch “browse” and “search”

Kuaishou’s pitch is explicit: break the wall between content and shelf fields so users watch in short video and live, browse in channels and “guess you like,” and buy via search and storefronts.

Merchant-day figures back the shift:

  • Daily active selling merchants up 15%+ YoY; quality new merchants +26%; daily active brands +34%
  • March 2026: monthly short-video buyers +15%+; shelf-field monthly buyers +17%+
  • Commerce content exposure +17%+; passive search intent +50%+; mall new/reactivated buyers +36%
  • High-frequency buyers +53% MoM; 50% of users repeat within 30 days in private-domain ops

36Kr’s read of the 2024 618 cycle (May 20–Jun 30) was sharper: shelf GMV +75%, search GMV +110%, shoppable short-video GMV +69%. Q1 filings put shelf share near 25% of GMV; mall browsing +80%+; 25%+ of users placed a first mall order via search.

Growth is no longer “go live, get paid.” Users wake up in content and checkout in shelves—live builds trust and spikes; shelves hold repurchase and search intent.

Billion-level support targets full-funnel supply, not shelves alone

AI tools now span demand wake-up through repurchase. The hidden rule: supply must circulate across fields. SKUs that only price-shout in live, with no search titles or shoppable clips, miss the support pool.

Live’s new job: trust engine + traffic inlet

1. Live for spikes, shelves for repeat

Kuka Home’s Kuaishou lead said centralized push from Jun 2023 yielded 150M yuan in 2023 and 70M+ in H1 2024 (189% YoY). 618 cleared 36M+ yuan (206% YoY). The pattern: S-tier platform days plus omni-field ops—content and shelves feed each other.

Goodbaby started creator distribution in 2021, upgraded brand strategy in Q4 2024. 618 cleared eight-figure yuan GMV and beat a 300% growth target via “creators seed → self-live converts twice.”

2. Sales hosting: scale content without a live team

“Sales hosting” cold-starts SKUs, machine-picks winners, and distributes across live, video, distribution, and shelves.

618 2024: hosting daily GMV peak 50M+ yuan; GMV 7.6× average within two weeks post-enrollment. Zongzi brand Xiaoyingzhai saw ~80% of Kuaishou GMV via hosting; an appliance belt seller moved 20,000 fans via hosting for 1.5M+ yuan GMV—merchant supplies wholesale price; platform runs traffic, subsidies, distribution.

Live capability can be outsourced; fulfillment stays yours.

3. New merchants: prove SKU first, then expand live

The “New Merchant Launch” plan allocates 100B traffic impressions. 618 2024: new active SMB merchants +47%, average store earnings +37%, SMB GMV +31%.

Practical sequence: shoppable video or hosting to validate SKU → live for burst windows → fix search and storefront—not a heavy live studio on day one.

Self-check: one-show GMV or full-funnel compounding?

Demographics shift too: higher-tier cities +11%+; high-spend women +25%; high-spend men +16%. Price-only live spikes may not match quality/scenario demand in shelves.

Bottom line

Kuaishou’s 2026 billion-traffic pledge is not “kill live, all shelves.” It upgrades live to trust, demand ignition, and burst windows while shelves and search own browse and buy; hosting and creators lower the content bar.

Teams still living on one-show GMV will feel friction. Teams wiring live, video, search, and storefront into one compounding loop are better positioned to capture the support.
